Liebe Segelfliegerfreunde! | Dear gliding friends!
It’s already four weeks since our containers arrived in Pottendorf, south of Vienna, for unloading. All fifteen gliders, two quads and lots of equipment survived the long journey safe and sound. Nevertheless, we are still busy with necessary maintenance, annual inspections, cleaning and small repairs here and there. But soon our whole fleet will be fully operational again. |

Looking at the first record-breaking flights with Föhn-conditions in the Austrian Alps, the last season in the southern hemisphere seems so long ago already. Let’s make us a short review anyhow. Our traditional season opener ‚Flying with the Champions‘ was an unforgettable experience for all involved. Especially in the second week a 1000km+ was flyable every(!) day, we indulged in a rest day by the pool. As this year‘s overflight-permission included operation in airspace G also outside of the gliding zone, we were looking forward to lots of new options. During many flights we passed Windhoek TMA in the east, under cumulus clouds which we could only watch from the distance with desire the years before. Even though the maximum allowed altitude was restricted to FL145, we could take advantage of the outstanding conditions on some days for long distances and fast runs. Certainly, one highlight was a flight of Karl-Heinz Bayer with Wolfgang on 11th of November 2018, OLC-Speed: 208,31km/h. Namibia couldn’t get much better than this! Besides having fun, and finding your name in a list on Internet in the evening, it seems much more important to us, that all our customers took care about our gliders, behaved responsibly in our playground airspace, and last but not least returned always healthy and safe from there flights. The challenges included in flying in this fascinating but also quite remote area should never be underestimated. Grown up in Middle Europe we are used to be guided and protected by rules, laws and safety precautions. In Namibia we are responsible for ourselves all alone. For those who want to learn about this gliding-paradise in a relaxed way, with the additional chance to learn a lot about themselves: there is still some space available in our event ‚Flying with the Champions‘ – book now, otherwise it might be too late! |

Back to Europe and the season ahead. For Gerhard Keuschnig it started already on 9th of March. That day he took over the just delivered Ventus 3M and spent with it ten days in Gap. Afterwards he flew some days from his home airfield Lienz. His feedback about the glider is very encouraging, for us but in particular for Tilo Holighaus. His summary: „There is nothing to improve or change on this glider, it’s perfect”. It’s about time for us too to go for a test flight with our new ship! Since some days it’s back in Wr.Neustadt. |
As we sold our Arcus E and the Arcus M „3“, the average age in our fleet is the lowest ever. The older of the two remaining Arcus M, the „4“ is just eight month old, the „5“ was delivered in February. The Antares 23E, D-KULS, is also for sale, so if you are looking for a glider – maybe to bridge over the delivery time of an order you placed – it is available any time, ready to race!
What’s next: the ‚Aero‘ in Friedrichshafen. As usual, our table will be the culinary highlight at the booth of Schempp-Hirth. Once more a big thank you to family Holighaus for their hospitality! We are looking forward to see a lot of our friends and customers there, talking face to face the „further routing” often becomes clear quite quickly! |
Bis dann |
See you soon |
